about Me

I am M. Yoganathan, often referred to as the “Tree Man of India,” residing at F18, second floor AV Grandeur Apartments, Ganapathi, Coimbatore. My journey commenced as a Bus Conductor in Coimbatore, driven by a fervent desire to cultivate a cleaner and greener environment. This aspiration led me to initiate a program wherein I provided free tree saplings to passengers traveling on my bus. Bolstered by overwhelming support, I fervently pursued this initiative, diligently planting and nurturing saplings across Tamil Nadu for the past 36 years, totaling an estimated count of around 3.5 million.

Nurture The Environment

In addition to grassroots efforts, I actively advocated for environmental conservation by delivering speeches at schools and colleges across India, emphasizing the imperative of tree plantation. Throughout my career, I have dedicatedly contributed approximately Rs. 30 lakhs of personal funds towards promoting a verdant ecosystem and fostering biodiversity.

My unwavering commitment to this noble cause has garnered recognition from governmental bodies, private organizations, and individuals alike, manifested through certificates and medals. A pinnacle moment arrived when the Honorable Prime Minister, Thiru. Narendra Modi, acknowledged and commended my endeavors during the “Mann Ki Baat” program in 2021. Further, I was honored to receive appreciation from the late Former President and esteemed Scientist, Thiru. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, for my significant contributions.

Among the prestigious accolades conferred upon me are the “Pasumai Porali,” “Real Hero,” “Unsung Hero Award,” “Samuga Sinthanaiyalar,” “Periyar Award,” “Green Global Award,” “Atral Virudhu,” “Green Hero Award,” “Climate Warrior,” and the distinguished title of “Tree Man of India.” Noteworthy personalities such as Mukesh Ambani, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, former CJI Sadasivam, and Allu Arjun have also acknowledged and appreciated my work.

It is with great humility and a profound sense of purpose that I continue to champion environmental conservation and sustainable practices. My resolve remains resolute in nurturing and preserving our natural heritage for generations to come.

Let us stand behind and support our green activities.

Tamilnadu Government has conferred on him the tiltle 'Sutru Suzal Seyal Veerar'. He was the recipient of the Eco Warrior Award conferred by the Indian Government last year.
"My request to have the award sent to me by post was declined.
I was concerned about the train fare, the days taken for my leave, and accommodation costs in New Delhi. But, I'm glad I received the award in person from none other than the Vice President of the country,".
